Approach to Design

As a team, the approach is to design the Vortex such that it not only meets the performance criteria, but also achieves a level of marketability that could compete in the markets of today. This project is simultaneously an engineering and marketing problem. With the ideas upbringing, the idea is an invention, and the approach of the group is to take this invention to an innovation. Specifically, while the initial design stage is important, testing of prototypes will be of utmost importance. In order to create a marketable product, it is necessary to go through numerous design iterations, ultimately converging on a suitable final product. The testing will be broken down into performance and reliability testing. Performance testing will provide a means for verification of the proper function of the various components. Reliability testing will view these functions through the lens of the device's lifespan. Reliability testing will also account for the ergonomic efficiency of the device, as well as the development of the stresses within the device. Coupled together it is important that the device works effectively in the short and long term. For the benefit of the user, the device will be designed with an analytical mindset, making sure that the device can serve its user and ultimately play an important role in cleaning up the environment.
